May 28
And then there were four. Wes left early this morning to return to Oklahoma. It was nice meeting him. He is no longer just a name or a Facebook post.
![]() After several days of riding today will be easier. Today is the girl's day so we are shopping in Eureka Springs. I am back in the lead.
![]() Today I am trying out the Nikon camera. It has a 14x zoom which did a good job of capturing the deer grazing down the road.
![]() Downtown Eureka Springs. They had an odd payment system for parking. You stuffed five dollars into the slot on the box that matched your parking space number. Low tech and hard to verify you paid for your spot.
Off to shop.
Bear skeleton. It can go home with you for the right price. $$$$ This is one of those stores I dislike as soon as I walk in the door. Everything bought out of a catalog (except the bear obviously). I like shops with real antiques or legitimatly unique products.
A GL1800 and a Polaris Slingshot across the street. We wandered up one side of the street then back down the other. We bought a sackful of stuff including...pins! We met up and had lunch at the Main Street Cafe. Funny story: A grandmotherly-like little lady waited on us. When she set Mike's food in front of him he asked if it was a reuben as it wasn't obvious at a glance. She said "Yes" then as she walked off she said quietly "That's what you ordered...". The look on Mike's face was priceless when he realized he'd been backtalked. The rest of the trip we would tell him "that's what you ordered". Ha! After lunch we rode out of town to our next destination.
![]() When we rode the Pig Trail there was a sign south of town advertising Pig Trail shirts at a store 2.5 miles up the road. The only business we saw in that area was what appeared to be a biker bar. We rode there to look at shirts. When we arrived the place (Two Wheels on the Pig Trail) looked closed and it was. It is only open on the weekends. As we dismounted the bikes a lady came outside. She was the owner. We told her about the sign we saw for the shirts. She was cool and opened up the shop so we could buy shirts. We talked to her for awhile. She has a nice little place there but she is trying to sell it. Her husband and father helped her run the business but both have passed and it too much work for her alone.
![]() Next we rode up AR-23 to the Barn Shoppes antique mall we had passed earlier. It was a decent place and had real antiques.
![]() Our next stop was the Eureka West Antiques Market on US-62. They had a lot of stuff but nothing that appealed to Donna or I. They had parts of a gyrocopter that interested John. Their prices were on the high side.
![]() Our last shopping stops for the day were the two stores at Inspiration Point. Both of these stores were closed.
The inspiring view from Inspiration Point. River Lake Outdoor Center. 14:40, mileage 100,872 - We stopped at the Exxon station for fuel and a pitstop, then made our way through Eureka Springs back to the house.
![]() We are having pork chops tonight so John cooked them while Debby made fried potatoes and cooked carrots.
Mike practiced with his new BB pistol.
![]() Later Debby and Donna wanted coffee so John and I (chivalrous manly men) went to the convenience store near the Holiday Island entrance. We were going to take John's trike but it was blocked, so I drove. We went helmetless and I wore my pajama pants. What a sight! John said the rear seat was very comfortable and he can see why the girls like it back there. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so we'll have to play it by ear.
