July 5
![]() Today we head home. We planned to leave around 9am today and the luggage cart was at my door a little before that. The weather already has a toasty feel to it. We loaded stuff in the Suburban, John & Debby smoked, and at 9:13 we bid adieu to our weekend Springfield home.
US36 and I-72 coexist between Springfield and Decatur. John still has the Venture pin on his hat...he didn't find any donors.
We followed this tanker forever then it turned off in the middle of nowhere.
I was always on the lookout for trains. Saw another one here.
![]() At Tuscola we stopped at the Amishland Country Buffet. It's in a huge building that also houses several shops. We were about 20 minutes early for the buffet, so we piddled around the stores until time to eat. And eat I did! After lunch we went down the road to a gas station and filled the beast up for the first time this trip. John's neck and back was sore so I took over driving duties...so no more pictures. It didn't take long before the food took over and everyone was napping but me. When we got back in Indiana I took a different route than on the way out. I turned south on IN-63 to Terre Haute. This is the same way we went on Memorial Day. When we got to Terre Haute the rough roads woke everyone up. I showed them the place where I sold my Nomad. We jogged down I-70, then south on IN-46. We stopped at a convenience store at the IN-46/59 intersection just like on the crash day. However, after passing through Spencer we did not turn south on IN-43. Eureka, IN. 16:16 - We pulled into my driveway and the trip is officially over.
232 miles. Click here for my thoughts on the trip. |
