Les sanglots longs des violons de l'automne..."The long sighs of the violins of autumn".

This message is the first line of a poem written by the French poet Paul Verlaine. It was broadcast by the BBC over Radio Londres as a coded message to the French Resistance that the invasion was imminent. The message was sent 65 years ago today on 1 June 1944. When the second line of the poem was broadcast it signaled that the invasion would occur with 24 hours.
